From the artist: After the Second World War, many Polish immigrants settled in the Roncesvalles area and built families and communities. Illustrated are some of Poland’s traditional flowers, such as the corn flower, poppy and sunflower, to represent the ever-blooming culture that is vibrant within the neighborhood. As the daughter of a Polish immigrant, I feel very blessed to have grown up in Canada while experiencing my own culture along with many others.

RONCY  by Allison Gorczyk (2024)

From the artist: Roncesvalles is one of the most colourful and joyful streets in the city. “Roncy”, the familiar nickname of this wonderful street, makes you feel like you’re enveloped in this small town tucked away in the big city. I hope that the vibrant colours encourage both new and familiar faces to look up and observe the beauty of the street, and that the key elements of this piece feel comforting to residents and those who frequent the area.
