Events on Roncy

There’s always something worth catching on Roncesvalles. Could be live music at a pub, or buskers on the street, a movie at the Revue; might be a game night, panel discussion or other community happening.

Don’t miss our signature festivals, presented by the Roncesvalles Village BIA, with plenty to enjoy by people of all ages.

  • In June, Roncy Rocks celebrates the creative talents of our local musicians, artisans and entrepreneurs.
  • In September, we closed down the street during the two-day Roncesvalles Polish Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors.

So many fun movies at our local (awesome!) theatre in November ! #whatsonroncyOn behalf of our programming team, our staff, volunteers and board of directors, we’re mighty honoured (if not a little humbled) that the readers of NOW Magazine have entrusted us once again, voting us Toronto’s Best Cinema and Best Independent Cinema for a second time in a row (with a shout out to Drunken Cinema as runner-up in the Best Film Series category). Toronto’s indie scene is closely-knit, and everyone is producing top notch programmers and events, making it a new golden age of movie-going. Kudos to everyone making a difference. The month kicks off with Ekran Presents: The 11th Toronto Polish Film Festival returning to the Revue for the eleventh year. Showcasing the best in new Polish cinema, the festival is excited to present, among several films from Nov 5-10. From November 12-17, 48 Hour Film Project, Toronto takes up residency at the cinema, screening several short films made by local filmmakers. Drunken Cinema shows us what a dystopian 2019 looks like in the eighties with their sold out Drunken Cinema: The Running Man (1987) screening on Nov 16, Anime at the Revue's deep dive into the works of Satoshi Kon continues with the rarely-screened Anime! at the Revue: Satoshi Kon's Millennium Actress (2001) on Nov 19, Food in Film screens the 90’s cult kid classic, Food In Film presents: Good Burger (1997) with Burger Drops! on Nov 20, Silent Revue presents the recently discovered masterpieces of German Expressionism, Silent Revue: E.A. Dupont’s Varieté (1925) w/ live accompaniment (featuring live piano by Tania Gill) on Nov 24, We Really Like Her invites you to go back to eighties with their screening of the totally rad We Really Like Her!: Valley Girl (1983) on Nov 27, and Designing the Movies screens a special 55th anniversary screening of DR. STRANGELOVE — presented with an introduction to the work of legendary production designer Ken Adam (Dr. No, Goldfinger, et al.) by series host Nathalie Atkinson. We’re also screening celluloid on a few occasions this month, first on November 21, with a jump into NOIRVEMBER, with Edward Dmytryk’s underrated CROSSFIRE (1948), one of the first Hollywood films to deal with anti-semitism. Dumpster Raccoon Cinema brings 35mm to the screen with 25th Anniversary screenings of Dumpster Raccoon presents: Interview With The Vampire (1994) on November 22-23. On November 23, JAZZCAST, curated by Garvia Bailey, presents VAULTS & VIBES, an assortment of musical shorts from the late 1920s to the 1960s, featuring Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Lionel Hampton, among several other legends. All are presented on 16mm and are culled from the Revue’s archive, as well as selections courtesy of Media Commons at the University of Toronto. Last, but certainly not least, we are hosting some great second-run titles including Hustlers, ONCE WERE BROTHERS: ROBBIE ROBERTSON AND THE BAND, Ad Astra, Downton Abbey and more!
