For many years, our neighbourhood has lacked something that most neighbourhoods have: an LCBO outlet. We have long advocated for a Roncesvalles Village outlet, arguing that a government monopoly should not be forcing residents to drive outside their own neighbourhoods to buy a bottle of wine, harming local businesses as well as the environment. The BIA and MPP Cheri DiNovo met a number of times with LCBO officials last year, who told us they agreed that Roncesvalles needed an LCBO.
Now it seems to be finally happening. The LCBO will be opening a store in the High Park Plaza (Loblaws/Zellers complex). While it isn’t on Roncesvalles, as we had hoped, our neighbourhood is finally getting our own LCBO!
LCBO VP Jackie Bonic says she expects a Spring/Summer 2010 opening.
Thank you to our neighbors (including Dale Fallon and the Roncesvalles LCBO Facebook group), to Cheri DiNovo and to the LCBO for all their hard work in bringing a local option to Roncesvalles wine lovers!
