Small Business COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program

The Government of Ontario has pulled together $8 million to support small businesses that are struggling to pay their energy bills. The Ontario Energy Board has created the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program for Small Businesses (CEAP-SB). The program provide a one-time, on bill credit for electricity and natural gas accounts that have outstanding payments as of March 17, 2020.

Applications for this program are now open through Toronto Hydro and Enbridge Gas. Enbridge has provided a number to call to both check eligibility and to apply. That number is 1-877-362-7434.

For businesses that are billed by a 3rd party or unit sub-meter providers they will need to reach out to them directly.

The Small Business Lighting Program “Save ON Energy” offers $2000 in free lighting upgrades. free assessment, help with grants and lining up installers – see list of types of business, e.g. convenience stores, barbershops and salons, restaurants and coffee shops, small retail among others.

Eligibility: Fewer than 50 employees on site at any given point. Cannot have already participated in this program since 2016. But you can, if you participated previous to 2016.
