We’re always thrilled with ideas to promote our neighbourhood and our businesses. And the latest great idea is: Roncylicious!
This idea was conceived by Chris Murie, owner of The Dizzy. A collaborative effort between Roncesvalles restaurants, other businesses, and the RVBIA, Roncylicious will promote our restaurants and our street throughout the month of August, typically a slow time for our restaurants.
Participating restaurants will offer discounts on a specialty item for the month, and will display a Roncylicious poster in their windows. So come out and support Roncesvalles’ wonderful food culture!

Interesting Idea however it has already been done
“Summerlicious”
I am sure Amex will not be impressed.
Definitely the name isn’t original. However American express did not create this either. They are a sponsor. Summerlicious was created during the SARS out break in Toronto, and in order to boost tourism dollars restaurants and the entertainment areas came together to create summerlicious.
Ronceylicious is in the same vein. I think its a great idea… Even if it isn’t original.
Amex is just a sponsor. I think RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) was sponsoring this most recently just as they sponsored the last street sale.
Actually, Roncylicious is a largely independent initiative created and funded by our local restauranteurs, with the help and support of the RVBIA. Roncylicious has no corporate sponsors. It was inspired by the realization that no Roncesvalles restaurant was invited to participate in Summerlicious this year.
So the name is quite deliberate, and I think that this idea reflects one of the things I love most about our neighbourhood: its independent spirit.
Thanks for shedding some light Keith.
I personally love the fact that Roncey is a hidden gem of Toronto. As much as I would like it to kept too ourselves. I think it would be great for others to see what a great place it is.
Its as shame that no Roncesvalles resto’s were invited to participate. However, it doesn’t surprise me. As with all big business, the less obvious places tend to be overlooked for more oververtly louder areas like Queen West, or Yonge and Eglington area and the downtown core.
But thats what makes Roncesvales so unique, those that do spend there time there really want to be there.
I was actually hoping for better deals from our local fabulous rest. and facilities.. however i love what is offerend and i plan to take full advantage of as much as possible..
but for a community that is such a gem and one that relies on their neighbours to help their success i was hoping to be rewarded. just a little bit more. :)..
So far I have been to the Local and tried the Homebake Pizza Company.
This is one area of the city that depends on us locals so much. We all know each other and say hello on the street. We shop, eat, and drink locally. This is a great time to perhaps try somewhere you may not have ventured into yet
My experience of Roncesvalles is that is a Toronto neighbourhood like every other. We have some wonderful businesses along the street, like Another Story, Alternative Grounds, Revue Cinema, Tinto, etc. But we also have some that I would never step into a second time. Among these is the shoemaker on the east side, he is one of the most racist people I’ve ever met in this city.
In terms of neighbours, we have some who are friendly, some who are indifferent, and some who are plain hostile. There are some who help out, and some who don’t shovel their sidewalks all winter long. A neighbourhood like any other.

Interesting spin on a very uncreative rip off of a marketing idea that has been around for years.
I am guessing that it would have been more effective if some thought had been put into the name of this function.
However given the history of this BIA and the “Fall fair” no Polish Fest, no Donut Day…on and on it goes.
Bearing in mind that according to Stats Canada the largest Ethnic demographic in your ward is Not Polish but in fact Portuguese..
Maybe you should rethink a great deal of how Roncey is marketed..
You could always take your Polish act to Mississauga where all the polish store owners now live!
Mr Denning, You really should do better research , in fact a number of Roncey Resto’s were invited to participate in Summerlicious..
Facts sir just the facts.
Actually, the year that we launched this initiative, there were no Roncesvalles restos involved. The following year 3 restos were invited. Maybe im wrong, but I think we got their attention and would call that a victory sir. The fact that 3 restos were invited the following year is also the reason I dropped the initiative.
Success Sir, Success!
